SINGAPORE: Singaporeans felt two rounds of tremors in the space of two hours on Tuesday, following two earthquakes in Padang, Indonesia.
Singapore's Meteorological Services Division said the first tremors were felt at about 11.50am after an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck Padang on the island of Sumatra.
The epicentre was 50 kilometres north-northeast of Padang and some 430 kilometres south-west of Singapore.
The second round of tremors occurred around 1.50pm after another earthquake, measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, struck Padang.
The tremors were felt in many parts of Singapore.
Callers to the MediaCorp News Hotline reported tremors in the downtown city area of Beach Road, Robinson Road and Shenton Way, as well as residential areas such as Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Choa Chu Kang and Woodlands.
Witnesses said some tall buildings in the central business district swayed slightly.
Several buildings, like the Concourse, Capital Square and Centennial Tower in the city, and even Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Clementi, were evacuated.
Police said there were no reports of injuries from the tremors in Singapore.

I was in the toilet for the first earthquake, so I couldn't feel it because you become dizzy in the toilet from all the ammonia anyway =P
But I felt the second earthquake. I was shaking my foot in my office and noticed that the pen beside me was swaying left and right.
"That couldn't be because of me," I told myself. So I stopped shaking my foot, and noticed that the whole room was shaking.
"Whoo!!!! This is great!" then it stopped.

wow. an earthquake. being from canada and never travelled to any place that has earthquakes, i have no idea what it would be like.
is it scary? were you far from where the actual earthuake was?
make sure you take care of yourself. is your mum still in singapore?
I think the earthquake was some 400+km away, so it wasn't too bad. More details are in those links.
I was a little freaked out at first because things were moving, and because I had stopped shaking my leg, i thought that my leg couldn't have been that strong. That was when I noticed that the pen was swaying too, and something was definitely happening.
Also, I was at my computer at work,w hich is on the 6th floor. If it shook any more, i could have been in trouble.
The only reason why I felt the shake was because I was seated down. If anyone standing up during a minor shake like this won't be able to feel it. That was why I (for the first one), and many people in s'pore couldn't tell that singapore shook.
My mum is here till the 20th March.
